Stanleytown dad in Mothers Day run

A resident of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam has organized a 15-mile run today, to show mothers how special they are.

Eli Hazel, a qualified gym instructor and sport organizer will commence his run at 4.30 am from the Port Mourant Hospital on the Corentyne and end at Stanleytown.

He will be joined by other persons including his two young sons Roger and Robert Hazel who will be riding alongside him on pedal cycles, his manager Gerald Young and his son as well as a supporter from Strand and Pitt Street New Amsterdam.

He said staging the run was his unique way of celebrating and showing all the mothers how much they are “loved and appreciated” for all the strenuous duties they perform daily to make their children’s lives comfortable.

Hazel, an employee of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company is aware that mothers cannot be compensated for all that they do but he “hopes the race will encourage persons to cherish their moms…”

Meanwhile, he took the opportunity to congratulate the “history-making” female football team from Berbice which represented Guyana at the recently concluded Inter-Guiana games.

He encouraged the “young ladies to keep training hard and your efforts will pay off.” He further stated that the team has “captured the hearts of Berbicians and more females need to engage in sport activities.”
