Mom nabs man who snatched her daughter’s chain

-court hears

On Monday a 22-year-old man who allegedly robbed a woman of a gold chain was remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Patrick Simons of Lot 80 East La Penitence pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery with violence.

He denied that on May 8 he robbed Patricia Hodge of a gold chain valued $29,000 and used personal violence in the process.

Hodge, who was present in court, stated that on the day in question she was on her way to her mother’s home when Simons rode up behind her on a bicycle and snatched her chain. She said that she then ran to the front of her mother’s home while Simons disembarked his bicycle and attempted to snatch her bag.

Hodge went on to say that she fell to the ground and as Simons was threatening her with a scissors her mother came outside and saw him.

Simons then attempted to ride away but the bike fell. Hodge said that her mother chased after him as he fled on foot and she soon apprehended him.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Simons be remanded to prison and transferred the case to Court Six for May 25.
