Over 50 children from several villages in West Berbice were recently treated to a trip at the Jubilee Resort at Timehri, courtesy of the Aditya Foundation (AF) of Bath Settlement.
According to Aditya Foundation President Narsingh “Archie” Mohan of Canada, the intention was to provide the children with an opportunity to explore and discover what they were not accustomed to in Berbice.
He said most of the children as well as their parents who accompanied them on the trip had never visited a resort before and he hoped it would not just be a once in a lifetime opportunity for them.
He said he regretted that he could not be a part of the trip to witness the happy faces of the children who deserved the treat. He learnt from the members of the local arm of the foundation, though that the purpose of the trip was achieved.
Vice-president Mahendra Persaud told this newspaper that the children had the “time of their lives splashing in the huge swimming pool and slipping down the twin 200-ft water slides.”
Some of the children were also taken for boat rides in the black water lake. Persaud said the children arrived at the resort before midday and around 5 pm it was difficult to get them to leave.
Meanwhile, Mohan said Aditya Foundation continues its efforts to make a difference in the lives of youths and has provided 16-year-old Krishna
Shewtahal an opportunity to undergo cricket training in Trinidad.
The foundation has sponsored his airfare so he can achieve his dreams
of becoming a professional cricketer.
Shewtahal who would also be a guest player for the Citizens Clerk Road
United Cricket Club in that country is being coached by former national cricketer of Trinidad & Tobago, David Sultan.
The Aditya Foundation was established to help underprivileged children following the death of a child, Aditya Persaud of Bath Settlement who was sent to India for a heart surgery which unfortunately was not successful.
