SAO PAULO, (Reuters) – Nene Constantino, whose family controls Brazilian airline Gol Linhas Aereas (GOLL4.SA), has been indicted in connection with the 2001 murder of a land squatter, a Sao Paulo newspaper said yesterday.
O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper said a Brasilia court issued an arrest warrant for Constantino, 78, for masterminding the killing of Marcio Leonardo de Sousa Brito in Brasilia in Oct. 2001.
Police in the capital were searching for Constantino, who remains at large and may be hiding in Sao Paulo, according to Estado, which did not disclose the source of the information.
It said Brito had led a group of 100 people who were camped at the facilities of a bus company, Viacao Planeta, owned by Constantino. Police determined that Constantino ordered two employees to hire a hitman to kill Brito, the paper said.
