Timeka on road to realising her dreams

Just as she said she would, not so many years ago, Guyanese singer Timeka Marshall is working hard at her career and she could gain international recognition shortly if her song is selected as the theme for next season’s CSI Miami.

Meanwhile, she has already gained regional recognition with one of her recent songs, “All Night”, sitting at the top of the RE-TV music video charts in Jamaica and a second “Secrets-Hush” – a collaboration with Peetah Morgan of Morgan Heritage — rolling in at number ten.

Contacted recently, Timeka, who is currently in Jamaica, told The Scene via telephone that her management team, Pyramid Entertainment Management Limited, based in Barbados, was responsible for putting the song up for consideration as the theme for the next season of the crime scene investigation drama series.

“Yes it is something they [her management team] have been working on,” Timeka said. “They have been working on getting my songs out and while I know about it I don’t have any more details. If it works out it would definitely be good.”

Timeka is up against Barbadian singer Philip 7, who is managed by the same company, for the theme song selection. Both of the artistes are sponsored by the sunglasses and sports apparel brand Oakley.

But while she said it would definitely boost her career should her song be chosen, Timeka is just focused on doing what she does best and that is singing and recording.

The beautiful singer, who certainly causes heads to turn whenever she is around, has come a far way from the 16-year-old who won the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) first jingle contest back in 2006.

Now at 20 and years after her first single “Separate”, with which she stamped her authority in the local music industry and to a lesser extent the Caribbean’s, Timeka is between Jamaica and Guyana.

She told The Scene that while Guyana is still her home she spends a significant amount of her time in the land of reggae music as she does all of her recordings and video shooting in that island.

Timeka’s collaboration with Peetah, “Secrets-Hush”, has been getting a lot of radio and television time locally and regionally from reports in other Caribbean countries.

The songstress doesn’t seem to be one to boast as she would not venture into saying how popular her music is in Jamaica.

“To be honest I don’t get the time to listen to the radio or watch the television so I don’t know how big the song is here but if it is popular then I am happy,” she said when asked about the popularity of the song.

Not one to sit idle Timeka is working on a new and hot video, which will be out in another few months’ time. It is for a new single called “Feel Fah”, which will be done in collaboration with Jamaican singer ‘Busy Signal’. Timeka co–wrote the song with Tony Gold and another Jamaican. She promises that the video would be a very “pretty and hot” one and it is being choreographed by the same person who does Sean Paul’s videos.

“Everything I do is about work,” she said. “I am always working and in the studio and even when I am not working on a song for me I am providing back-up for someone.”

And yes she confirmed that she would be back in Guyana to play a part in this year’s GT&T jingle and song contest.

She told The Scene that while she is now 20 she is just out of her teenage years and as such she is still a child in so many ways. “I am not all grown up. I would not consider myself grown up as I am still very much childish and I love being that way.”

And the beauty says she is single, meaning she is not exclusively dating anyone, and while it is not something she looking for “if it comes along then…”

But for now, “I am just trying to accomplish my dream and make it come true.”
