Guyanese Kelvin Johnson, Lionel D’Andrade and Dennis Horatio claimed first, second and fourth respectively in the race, which they said was over tough hilly terrain. They managed to succeed times of 16:38s, 17:11s and 17:19s respectively. The team said that the toughest part of the race was the hills but nevertheless they were pleased with their performances.

Denying the Guyanese contingent a clean sweep was Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympian and international campaigner Elvis Turner (17:15s). St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Pameous Ballentyne who displayed excellent form to defeat the entire field just a few weeks back in the twin island country, finished fifth in a time of 17:38s.

Just a few weeks back after Ballentyne had defeated the trio in the Ribbon of Hope 5K race they decided to train together to become a stronger force to reckon with. They said that move has had a positive effect.

Meanwhile, Horatio said that while he was returning to Trinidad from the race in Tobago, he was cornered by four men who were in a car with no licence plate. He said the car drove up in front of him and two gunmen stepped out. One of them put a gun to his head demanding whatever he had in his possession.

He was relieved of a brand new cell phone worth TT$2,500, cash amounting to over TT$2,000 and his training bag which had his sporting gears and other items. The incident took place around 10 pm at Arouca Bunair West.

When Horatio spoke to Stabroek Sport last evening he said he was awaiting the arrival of a relative to help make a report at the police station.
