Pork-knocker jailed for three weeks over $2,000

A 50-year-old pork-knocker on Friday opted to serve a three-week jail term after pleading guilty to the charge of fraudulent conversion when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

According to the facts of the case, on June 24 at Georgetown, Harris Nurse, of 114 Silverballi Road, Meadow Brook Gardens fraudulently converted the sum of $2,000 to his own use. The money belonged to Nickeisha Granderson.

The defendant told the court that the virtual complainant (VC) for whom he would do odd jobs, had owed him some money and was reluctant to pay him. He said she had given him the $2,000 to purchase some items for her and he decided to take it. Nurse said he told Granderson that he was going to take the sum for the money she had failed to repay him.
The VC did not attend court.

The magistrate fined the defendant $8,000 or the alternative of three weeks imprisonment for the offence. Nurse opted to serve the jail term.
