Cellink Plus 2009 Premier League

Alpha United’s Edison Gomes recorded a  double against Pele Football Club  to help his team gain  a come-from-behind victory in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Cellink Plus Premier League at the Tucville Playfield on Sunday.
Gomes’ double helped Alpha overcome Pele 4 – 1 in the feature match of the double header.
Pele had scored in the opening minute but from then on it was all Alpha.

In the curtain raiser, Fruta Conquerors defeated BK International Western Tigers 1 – 0. Pele opened up the encounter with an effective attacking plan against the league’s three-time defending champions and were soon rewarded with a penalty after an Alpha defender was blown for a foul tackle in the 18-yard box.

Travis Grant’s eighth minute kick from the penalty spot deceived Ronson Williams who was defending the uprights.
Alpha seemed to be  having some trouble against Pele’s unyielding defence but they  soon equalized after a defence error in the 32nd minute saw the ball go past Shemroy Arthur in goal.

After the 15-minute break the teams were at it again and it was Alpha who scored in the 69th minute to gain the lead through Dwight Peters who scored after a goal mouth scrimmage.

Gomes then fired in his first goal in the 71st minute and claimed his second moments later from the penalty spot after Pele were blown for a foul tackle.

In the Fruta/Tigers match, the teams battled through the tough, muddy outfield and Fruta’s lone goal was the highlight of the match while the slippery outfield caused the match to see several yellow cards being shared among the players.

Devon Forde scored in the 20th minute and also received a yellow card while  his teammates Gerald Gittens, Junior Witherspoon, Delon Williams and Trevon Lychott also received cards.

Ryan Thomas was the only member from the opposition to receive a yellow card.
