President Bharrat Jagdeo on Monday met with representatives of the Clinton Foundation who praised the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) document and his leadership on climate change.
In a press release the Government Information Agency (GINA) said Clinton Foundation consultant Jan Hartke along with two other officials: Dr Donald Jim Baker, Director of the Global Carbon Measurement Programme and Jennifer Rockwitz, Country Coordinator, Guyana, met Jagdeo at State House. After the meeting Hartke said that the Foundation was impressed by Jagdeo’s leadership and lauded the LCDS as a model that will help save the forests and preserve the environment, as well as enrich the lives of Guyanese socially and economically.
Hartke said Jagdeo’s initiative “has quite honestly inspired people around the world, and you really need leadership on something like this if we are able to get progress in Copenhagen. He will be able to show how other countries can follow the emergent Guyana model.” The consultant said too in addition to bringing finances to Guyana it is a model of development that could make Guyana one of the leaders internationally, and a demonstration showplace when Copenhagen has its meeting. Hartke also said the Clinton Foundation is interested in working with government in a number of common areas.
