Trophy Stall countrywide softball competition…

Parika/Hydronie and Rangers Sports Clubs rocketed into the semi-final round of the Guyana Softball League (GSL) Trophy Stall 15-overs-a-side countrywide competition after easily over throwing their opponents this past week.

PHSC and RSC are now favoured to reach the final after defeating Scotsburg United and Fyrish Youths of Berbice respectively in the quarter-final round.

In the first match between Scotsburg United and PHSC played at Providence ground, Scotsburg won the toss and batted scoring just 123 from their 15 overs as Darshan Challitar top scored with 27 (3×4) while standing in a threatening 41-run partnership with Sherwin Murray who made (24).

Scotsburg crumbled after both batsmen were removed in the space of five balls for three runs and lost four more wickets for 12 runs.
Thereafter, the team’s scoring was checked and they eventually crawled to their final score.
Leon Spears bagged 3-12.

In reply, PHSC got off to a slow start as they were 27-0 from the first five overs before Scotsburg captured three quick wickets which left the PHSC in shambles.

However, brothers Dhaniram (21) and Nandaram Lallaram (28) rebuilt the innings with a stand of 60 taking the score to 120 before Nandaram, in his quest to finish the match in a flourish was caught on the boundary.

Scotsburg United’s best bowlers were Sherwin Murray with 2-20 and Lalta Persaud with 2-24.
In the RSC/Fyrish Youths battle, Fyrish Youths steamed their way to 141 courtesy of two terrific innings and a 90-run partnership from Rajai Singh (53) and Imran Hussain  who scored an unbeaten 31 after being 41-5 in nine overs.
Mohamed Saffie bagged 3-19.

Rangers SC blazed away scoring at around nine runs per over for the first seven overs.
They were cruising at 58-2 before carelessness stepped in and they lost six wickets in the space of three overs for 20 runs.
Skipper Asif Saffie and Mohamed Saffie then took their team to victory.
Ram Bharat grabbed 5-13 for the Fyrish Youths.

The other quarter-finals will see Georgetown and East Bank taking on Essequibo’s top teams Die Hard XI and Young Warriors next week.
