Bodies of missing politician, wife found

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has expressed shock at the brutal killing of one of its political candidates and his wife whose badly decomposed bodies were discovered in the north western parish of Trelawny late Wednesday, confirming fears of family members that the couple had been killed.

The gruesome find was made by fishermen, who stumbled upon the bodies of Thomas Chambers and his wife, Marjoke, who left their home in the western parish of St James on 12 June for an undisclosed location and were not seen since.

Initial investigations suggest that Marjoke Chambers died from a knife wound to the neck, while it is believed that her husband could have been hit on the head with a stone that was found nearby.

So far two persons have been arrested and a detailed forensic examination is being conducted on the couple’s vehicle which was recently found in the corporate area. Chambers was the party’s candidate for the Salt Spring Division in St James during the 2007 Local Government Elections.
