At the simple handing-over ceremony, Sharon Patterson, representative of Empowerment through Education and Equity, urged the students present to read the materials and share the information with others. In her brief remarks, Patterson told the small gathering that the books provide information on how children can be protected from all forms of exploitation and abuse.

The schools receiving books at the ceremony were St Winefride’s, Dolphin Secondary, Lodge Community High, Tutorial High, St Mary’s High and Houston Community High.

According to a statement from Every Child Guyana, the non-governmental organisation has as its mandate to work towards a society where children are safe and protected from all forms of violence.

The statement added that the focus of the organisation is to work on addressing the growing concern of both government and non-governmental agencies on the protection of children.

The books were handed over as part of the NGO’s observance of World Day Against Child Labour.
