Two men who allegedly stole a water tank from a man’s yard were on Wednesday remanded to prison when they appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on July 19 at Georgetown, Leroy Pitt, 38, a janitor of 5 Craig Street, Campbellville and Andrew James, 34, a labourer of E 20 Guyhoc Park stole one water tank valued $21,551, property of Toolsie Ram Persaud.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to them by the acting chief magistrate.
When given a chance to respond, the defendants told the court that they saw the water tank in a trench in the vicinity of Pastry King in Campbellville and soon after they were picked up by a number of police officers who were on patrol in the area.
James added that he got implicated because he was only assisting Pitt to take the tank out of the trench.
The virtual complainant (VC) told the court however that on the day in question he was out and upon his return home he discovered his tank missing. The VC said that the two emptied all the water out of the reservoir and removed it from his premises. He said also that when the defendants realised that the police had found them they decided to throw the tank into the trench.
The duo was later remanded to prison until July 29.
