Gunmen beat up Guyhoc residents after village day row

An early morning attack by a group of gunmen left residents of Guyhoc Park traumatized and they have appealed to the police to act decisively against the men who they said have attacked the community before.

At least four persons were injured during this recent attack, which lasted for approximately 15 minutes.
Stabroek News was told by residents that the ordeal started at the community’s “Village Day” activities but intensified after the conclusion of the event. Members of the gang, who are known persons from a neighbouring ward, were at the activity, this newspaper was told.

The whole incident was reportedly sparked when one of the gang members became infuriated after he observed a Guyhoc man dancing with a woman he liked. This prompted members of the gang to attack the man, kicking and cuffing him about the body.

A 19-year old man known as ‘Bull’ told this newspaper that when the men began attacking his friend, he intervened and urged them to stop. He said they refused to listen and subsequently he and one of the men ended up “having a talking”.

According to ‘Bull’, a few hours later, he observed a group of about 12 men, two of whom were carrying guns approaching him. He said a female resident of the area saw the men and sought to rush him into her home, but he was attacked from behind and hit several times in the head.

He lost consciousness and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated.
According to the woman, she was trying to escort ‘Bull’ to safety when she was hit from behind with a hard object.  She said that shortly after hitting her, the men attacked ‘Bull’, gun-butting him in the head.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said that a few of the gang members attacked Bull while others looked on.  She said the gang numbered close to 20.

She said that one of the men attempted to shoot Bull but that the bullet missed the young man. The woman said that after severely beating the man, the gang then turned on other members of the community before escaping.

Stabroek News was told that at a previous Village Day event, members of the same gang were involved in a shooting incident.

Residents said the gang members are known troublemakers and urged the police to take decisive action against them.
