-aggravated robbery accused tells magistrate
A man yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer to the charge of robbery with aggravation at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. Joel Davis pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Robertson telling the judge, “I innocent in the story you know.”
It is alleged that on June 8 in Georgetown in the company of others Davis robbed Clifford Success of one wallet valued $4,500 with $30,000 and US$60. Success was also robbed of 1 wristwatch valued $15,000, one gold ring with three stones valued $100,000, two gold rings valued $200,000 and a driver’s licence. The total value of the items stolen was placed at $331,500.
Police Prosecutor in the case, Munilall Seetaram asked that bail be refused. Seetaram also pointed out that Davis has a number of similar cases pending against him in court.
An unrepresented Davis in his explanation to the court told the magistrate, ”I was picked up jus suh on the road.” He said that he was on station bail when the “police kick down me door arrest me and tell me I gah come to court.” When questioned about his other matters in court, Davis told the Magistrate that his only case was a “sexual harassment from years ago story”. He then said that Police Prosecutor Seetaram prosecuted the case four years ago to which prosecutor Denise Griffith replied saying that Seetaram has not been prosecuting for four years.
Davis’ matter was transferred to Court Three for August 4.
