Terrence DaSilva, the man who allegedly killed another as a result of driving in a dangerous manner while under the influence of alcohol, was on Wednesday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magis-trate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
DaSilva pleaded not guilty to the charges of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol when they were read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
It is alleged that on July 26 at Linden, DaSilva, 51, a minibus driver of 286 Block 22 Wismar, Linden, drove minibus number BHH 7489 in a dangerous manner thereby causing the death of Wilton Tyrone Craig.
On the same day at Linden also the said DaSilva is alleged to have been driving minibus BHH 7489 with his blood alcohol level exceeding that of the prescribed limit.
Attorney-at-law William Sampson who represented the defendant made an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail. He told the court that DaSilva was the main breadwinner of his household. He stated also that his client has no previous convictions, has a fixed address, poses no risk of flight and has been in full cooperation with the police.
Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith, however, objected to the bail application made by the attorney on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
The father of nine was subsequently remanded to prison. His matter was transferred to the Christianburg Magis-trate’s Court for August 5.
Craig, a BOSAI security officer, died along the Winifred Gaskin Highway at Wismar early in the morning on July 26.
