$5M repairs ongoing at Victoria Street, Plaisance

GUYCO Construction is doing repairs costing some $5M to improve Victoria Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, as part of government’s emergency repair plan, the Government Information Agency (GINA) stated in a release.

It said further that according to Engineering Coordina-tor, Ministry of Public Works, Leon Goring, this emergency overhaul of the 532 ft road follows many complaints about the deplorable state of the street.

Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn along with Minister of Local Government Kellawan Lall and Goring visited the locality earlier this month to assess the situation and recognized the need for the upgrade.

Victoria Street is the access road connecting the railway embankment at Plaisance to one of the housing schemes going south.

In the 2009 budget government allocated over $7 billion to improve the country’s roads and bridges network, with about $5 billion allotted for roads.

Meanwhile, government has awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of Prince William Street, also in Plaisance, and work is expected to commence shortly, the release concluded.
