Parents of the Great Falls community were encouraged by Housing Minister Irfaan Ali to ensure that their children have an education as the ministry donated a quantity of books towards improved reading and literacy skills in the community.
The Region Ten community received the donation on Monday last and the minister said that a good education “can transform a community” and allow persons to “enjoy an improved standard of living”. The minister told them that they are all equal and gifted and that gift should be utilised “for the benefit [of] ourselves and community”.
The ministry also handed over several footballs to the community.
The minister pointed out that there are several initiatives that the government has undertaken to assist hinterland students who excel at school such as local scholarships and training programmes which provide hinterland students the opportunity to have access to prestigious educational institutions.“You have a proud history and heritage and you should work to ensure that you build that heritage,” the minister said.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) release said that the administration has placed tremendous focus on the eliminations of illiteracy through the implementation of strategies to improve quality education.
