The PPP/C needs a public relations mogul

Dear Editor,
Here we are, with a perceived crisis looming, a storm in a tea cup, as a result of statements emanating from a New York court of alleged links, between the Government of Guyana and a convicted drug trafficker, and the purchase of spy equipment, whose identical twin has emerged in the said court. Efforts are now being made to ascertain or confirm their paternity.

As part of the democratic process, a coalition of opposition parties has emerged, demanding answers, and calling for resignations, transparency and an international inquiry by Interpol. Whew! Quite a mouthful.

The gentlemen who will be at each others political throats come 2011 are now bed partners, sharing the same treated mosquito nets and supping from the same calabash. More amazing and amusing is the presence of the WPA’s representatives, whose leader, Dr Walter Rodney, was allegedly assassinated by the ancestors of one of the political parties, who are part of the said present coalition. Dr Rodney is probably turning in his grave at their insensitivity.

One must admire the political skill of the PNCR leader in bringing such a diverse crew together. Mr Corbin will go into the PNCR’s Biennial Congress with an A+; well done Corbie!
The PPP/C’s response to the revelations and accusations from New York has been poor and lacking in creativity. A public relations mogul is needed, one who can punch holes and reduce to insignificance the information coming from New York – a Nascimento type. The PPP/C is at present being outmanoeuvred by the coalition.
Yours faithfully,
C S Vaughn
