Covent Garden grocer, wife robbed

A Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara businessman and his wife were attacked and robbed by four men on Thursday of $200,000.
Police in a press release yesterday said Mohamed Subrati, a 50-year-old businessman who operated a grocery store, was robbed by four men. One of the men was armed with a gun.

Subrati, police said, was in the process of closing a bond in his yard at about 9 pm on Thursday when one of the suspects dealt him a blow with a hammer to his head. Another suspect entered Subrati’s home and held up his wife robbing her of $200,000. The two others kept watch.

The bandits, according to police, subsequently escaped in a waiting motor car. Investigations are ongoing.
