City Council applying strategies set out in inquiry report

The Mayor and City Council says it has already started to implement some of the strategies recommended by the Commission of Inquiry report particularly those aimed at ensuring greater financial accountability.

In a press release the Council said the Mayor and Deputy Mayor are both in possession of the report and are said to be studying it. On Friday, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Kellawan Lall sent copies of the three-volume report to the town clerk. Commissioner of Inquiry Keith Burrowes had submitted his report to the minister about three weeks ago, the Council said.

According to the Council, the Commission used a mixed approach including public/private hearings, meetings with senior members of management of the Georgetown municipality and a review of documents including financial statements, minutes of committee and statutory meetings and the municipal and Greater Georgetown Development Plan and other reports to reach its findings. The Council said it is continuing to take steps to boost its efficiency.
