City issues appeal to defaulting ratepayers

The Mayor and City Council urges home-owners who are defaulting on their rates to contact the City Treasurer’s Department to discuss settling their accounts.

In a press release issued last week, the Council said the City Treasurer’s Department is currently using a manual system to collect rates and update accounts in order to sanitise the system and reorganise the City Treasury. In the light of this, the Council asks for rate-payers to be patient when conducting business at the Department.

At the same time, the Council is grateful to the home-owners who have settled their accounts as by fulfilling their mandate the Council has been able to fulfil its responsibilities. The municipality is also continuing to despatch demand notices city-wide as it is necessary to collect sums owed to it in order to conduct enhancement, environmental and public health services and other works.
