Local Group Three champion driver Gavin Gayadin believes that he will transfer his winning ways from South Dakota to the Bushy Park race track in Barbados which will host the second round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship this weekend.
Gayadin raced to championship honours at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) National Race of Champions last month with his BMX E36 and yesterday he told Stabroek Sport that the car is working much better than at the local meet.
“I ran first here with the car and it was running well but before we shipped the car, we did some modifications – like we put in a new gear box and when we tested it, it was much faster than it was when we raced it so I think Barbados should be good for me,” said Gayadin. This would be the first time that he would be competing on the island but he did a few tours there and when asked how he would match up against the Bajans at the meet, Gayadin said that based on reports out of the island, he stood a good chance of coming home with some silverware.
“I really don’t know much about the drivers and so on, but we did some checks on their timings as compared to ours and based on that, I think we are like one second ahead which as you know is a lot of time in motor racing, so I think I stand a good chance of winning,” Gayadin added.
Gayadin’s car is already in Barbados and he would arrive there on Friday. But the journey to the land of the flying fish has been a bit rough for the race car driver since he says that he and his team are still short on sponsorship but he maintains that he is fully prepared.
