Speaking to this newspaper at the GPH yesterday, the lad’s father Suresh Rudradeo, who was also hit by the speeding car along the East Coast Highway around 5:30 that morning, said that his son’s condition has improved marginally, even though he was unconscious. The concerned man said that the police have since apprehended the driver of the car involved in the accident while the car was also recovered. The young man’s grandmother expressed hope that he would recover, noting that he appeared, “better than yesterday”.

Vivekanand, who is member of Hassan Mohamed’s Cycling Association, was on a separate bike when he and his father went cycling on Saturday morning. The lad’s father, who sustained minor injuries following the accident, said that his son took the brunt of the accident after he was hit from behind. The man said the car then hit him before driving away.

A number of relatives of the injured child, who celebrated his 12th birthday last Sunday, gathered outside the ICU of the hospital yesterday. The young man sustained severe head injuries.
