Issues with the Supenaam stelling

Dear Editor,

There is an issue with the Supenaam stelling and the pontoon ramp. The pontoon cannot float so its bottom is level with the ferry except when the water reaches a particular height. This will cause fatigue to the attachment points and eventually failure.

Secondly, a roll-on roll-off is normally loaded and unloaded via the bow and stern. The on-off ramp faces east, but the tides flow north-south. This means that the length of the ferry is perpendicular to the tide. The tide will therefore exert a turning-force on the ferry, tending to twist it away from its moorings. I do not know if this was calculated for, but the simple solution would be to extend the current ramp by placing an additional pontoon and mooring either north-south or south-north depending on the tide.

Why are we still using Adventure ? Can we not use this stelling as is for the existing vessels?

Yours faithfully,
