Teen girls take poison

Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) were yesterday trying to save the lives of two teenage girls from separate parts of the country, who ingested poisonous substances.

According to reports, the two girls, who reside at Georgetown and Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, respectively, were both admitted to the medical institution shortly after lunch yesterday after ingesting carbon tablets (rat poison).

Hospital sources informed that the Soesdyke resident’s condition was serious; noting that the young lady ingested two carbon tablets after relatives disapproved of the 16-year-old’s intention to get married.

In the second case, this newspaper understands that the 17-year-old school girl ingested the poisonous substance while at school because she was not successful at an exam. She was rushed to the GPH by teachers after she told them what she had done.
