Godfrey Chin’s Pictorial Exhibition of 20th Century Guyana now moves to the Conference Room at the National Library from Wednesday, September 9.
According to a press release, the exhibition will be held under the theme ‘A Bird’s Eye View of Georgetown from the Perspective of the National Library’ as part of the Library’s continued centennial celebrations.
Over 200 pictures will be on display. The pictures will reflect the history of the Library and events that took place in its environs including the annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph, the Black Fridays of 1913, 1945, 1951 and 1962, fires at the Sacred Heart Church, Brickdam Cathedral and the Park Hotel; Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation in 1953 and the rebuilding of the downtown shopping centre.
Chin will also be meeting the press at 11 am to hand over 1,500 books collected from the Guyanese Diaspora. He is hosting mini lectures for the public every hour from 9 am to 4 pm. A showcase will also be held on career opportunities at the Library.
The release said joint sponsors Banks DIH and the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph will also mount a ‘Know your Country Competition’ which will give every visitor a chance to win prizes for correctly identifying pictures.
