Trix Under-17 top performers rewarded

Top teams and individual performers of the recently concluded Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Trix Under-17 competition received their prizes yesterday in a simple ceremony in the boardroom of sponsors Bryden and Fernandes Inc.

The tournament, which began on May 30, concluded on August 19 with Fruta Conquerors claiming the inaugural championship after emerging 2 – 1 winners  over Sunburst Camptown in the final.

The Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and Uprising teams finished third and fourth respectively.
Uprising’s Stephon Dickenson was adjudged the Highest Goal Scorer, Joshua Brown won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and Dennis Edwards was named  the Best Goalkeeper while Uprising claimed the Most Disciplined Team award.

Marketing Co-ordinator of Bryden and Fernandes Inc. Mark Kendall, said  in his opening remarks that “the company is pleased to congratulate all the winners as it takes skill, discipline, dedication, energy, time and the love of football to be at the presentation today (yesterday).

“We applaud the Georgetown Football Association for their efforts and hard work in helping to keep football alive in Guyana and also allowing our youths to have a recreational event which allows them to be physically and mentally ready for the world at large,” Kendall added.

The management of Bryden and Fernandes Inc. also expressed gratitude to  the GFA for its support and cooperation during the tournament and noted that the company would be looking forward to a continued relationship with the organization.

Meanwhile, President of the GFA, Troy Mendonca, said that the association was extremely grateful for the partnership which gave players the chance to display their talent before moving on to a larger stage.

“Tournaments such as these help in building the foundation of the sport and we would like to see this continuing,” Mendonca said.
