UN Security Council to discuss Honduran crisis

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – The United Nations Security Council will meet today to discuss the political crisis in Honduras that has overthrown President Manuel Zelaya, a UN official said yesterday.

Zelaya was ousted in a June coup in the worst political crisis in Central America in decades. On Monday he returned to his country’s capital of Tegucigalpa and took refuge in Brazil’s embassy, leading to a tense standoff.

This week at the UN General Assembly, Brazil had asked the council to meet urgently about the crisis.
