Mother and son placed on bond for disorderly behaviour at NATI

A former student of New Amsterdam Technical Institute and his mother were each placed on a six-month bond by Magistrate Chandra Sohan yesterday following allegations of disorderly behaviour at the institution.

They were asked to sign the bond to keep the peace after they changed their plea to guilty. They had initially denied the allegation when the case was first called in July in the New Amsterdam Court.

The student and his mother were jointly charged following an incident at the tertiary institution on June 8 last.

Police Lance Corporal Roberto Figueira said the teen was a second year plumbing student at NATI when his mother was summoned to the office of the principal, Ronald Simon, to discuss a series of matters relating to her child’s conduct.

While being told of the teenager’s transgressions, the mother became aggressive and abusive. The student was ordered out of the office, but he returned and loudly uttered a series of profane words while making derogatory remarks about the head teacher.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police and the mother and son were charged.
