A 32-year-old Corentyne man accused of stealing a quantity of raw gold valued $1.3 million was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that on October 23 at Mahdia, Wendell Moore, aka ‘Ghetto’, of Liverpool Village, Corentyne, stole a quantity of raw gold valued $1.3 million, property of Jermain Marques.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him by the acting chief magistrate.
When given a chance to respond, Moore said that he had nothing to do with the alleged incident.
The virtual complainant was not in court.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question, based on investigations carried out, the accused was held in connection with the matter. The prosecution made an application that bail be denied on the grounds that the defendant has no fixed place of abode.
The unrepresented Moore was later remanded to prison until January 20. His matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
