I am responding to Mr. Freddie Kissoon’s letter (SN, Oct 22) in which he asked, among other questions, if “it was under Ralph Ramkarran’s chairmanship that Guyana Airways Corporation went bankrupt?” Kissoon is focusing on personalities instead of issues and targeting his guns unfairly on Mr. Ramkarran against whom Kissoon seems to have a personal vendetta. Freddie has to stop attacking people and needs to be more professional in his writings.
Freddie does not write factually. Freddie knows that Ramkarran was not responsible for the collapse of GAC. Freddie could have asked his friend, Balwant Persaud how the airline failed because Persaud wrote about it. He could also have asked Member of Parliament Moses Nagamootoo and Captain Fazel Khan for facts about the airline’s troubles. The late Mrs. Janet Jagan was primarily responsible for pulling the plug on the carrier over disagreements with the management. The airline also had problems with cash flow and frequent aircraft problems and the government failed to give the airline a lifeline because of conflicts with management. Management did make some errors but management was never free from political interference and people like Ramkarran and Khan were made the fall guys instead of being given support to restructure the airline. Freddie ought to know that Ramkarran was not involved in the day-to-day operations of GAC. That task fell to the CEO. Thus, Freddie should not cast aspersions or make innuendoes against Ramkarran or anyone else without solid evidence.
