Waitresses charged with swiping restaurant money

At the Blairmont Court on Monday, Magistrate Tejnarine Ramroop placed three women on $25,000 bail each when they appeared before him on a charge of simple larceny.

The women, Permilla Kistoo, 25 of Golden Fleece, West Berbice and Phyllis Omar, 24 of No. 41 Village together with Nookwattie Nirmaul, 52, of No. 7 Village, reportedly stole over $1.5 M cash belonging to Yu Feng Loian on October 21.

Reports are that Kistoo and Omar, both waitresses at the Li Yu Men Chinese Restaurant at Bush Lot removed the cash – both local and foreign currency – from a bedroom adjoining the restaurant and gave it to Nirmaul.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Grace Bristol told the court that almost $600,000 was recovered. She did not object to bail which she said should be reasonable to ensure the women attend court for their trial.

The defendants were represented by attorney-at-law, Joel Persid Edmond who made an application for bail for his clients.
According to reports the women removed a box containing the cash and other documents and gave it to a friend and continued working as if nothing had happened.

They left as usual at around 9 pm with their handbags and it was not until after 10 pm when the owner closed up his business that the money was discovered missing.

The owner immediately made a report to the Fort Wellington station and ranks went to the women’s homes and promptly arrested them.
