Pele FC rewards U-13 player for success at Grade Six Examinations

The young defence player, whose marks gained him entry to the first form of the Bishops’ High School, was presented with a refund on the purchase of his text books.

Making the presentation Sunday during a family fun-day organised by Pele F.C was lethal Pele striker Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson.

Richardson is the first player from Guyana to make it to the MLS in the USA and he encouraged King to continue to pursue his education and wished him well in his football career.

King said he was delighted to meet Chan and learn of his football exploits as they shared a light moment following the presentation.

According to a release from the club, the executives of Pele F.C had promised the young defence player and his parents that the club would cover the costs of all his first form text books as a reward for his successful academic achievements.

King’s achievement comes at a much needed time when young local footballers seem to have forgotten the importance of education and clearly shows that both sports and academics can be pursued simultaneously with great success, the release added. The club stated that it wished King a bright academic future and a glittering football career and said it hoped that King’s achievement would serve as an example to other young athletes, especially footballers.
