A man charged with carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl was refused bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that William Bassont of 164 Old Road Eccles, East Bank Demerara between December 1 and December 2 had carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old girl.
According to Prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Telford, Bassont promised the girl a cell phone and took her to his residence to collect the instrument where the offence was committed.
The virtual complainant said that she knew the man through a cousin.
Bassont’s matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for today.
