No suspect held yet in watchman murder

Up to press time last night police were still trying to ascertain if robbery was the motive behind the slaying of a watchman at an unfinished house at Sixth Street, Diamond, East Coast Demerara and no suspect has  been identified.

Senior police officers told Stabroek News yesterday that investigations revealed that a bicycle recently bought by the man’s employer was missing.

When Stabroek News visited the house yesterday no one was there. The nearest house is two lots away and no one reported hearing or seeing anything suspicious in the hours leading up to the discovery of the body.

Residents said that since the discovery of the body no one has visited the site.
They said that the man, Trevor Simon called `Neighbour Joe’ has  been living at the bottom of the unfinished structure for some time now.

According to one woman, the man slept on a plyboard and some clothing he had recently bought was also missing. Simon, they said, also did odd jobs including digging drains around the area.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted today.
Police said in a press release on Wednesday night that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the 40-year-old man who was found around 4 pm.

His hands and feet, the release said, were bound. His mouth was also tied with a piece of cloth and abrasions were seen on his head.
