When negotiations between GuySuCo and GAWU over the payment of the corporation’s Annual Production Incentive (API) continue tomorrow, the union will continue to press for a nine-day pay incentive for its workers.
General Secretary of GAWU Seepaul Narine told this newspaper yesterday that the union is requesting the nine-day pay incentive, based on the achievement of a production target of 228,000 tonnes of sugar. Should the production target reach 235,000 tonnes, the workers should be entitled to an incentive of 10 days pay, Narine explained.
When the two entities met on Thursday, the union rejected the corporation’s incentive offer of four work days.
Communications Officer of GuySuCo Romel Roopnarine told Stabroek News that at Thursday’s negotiating meeting, the union requested additional information from the corporation which will be handed over at this week’s meeting.
Narine said yesterday that while the union is looking forward to receiving the information at tomorrow’s meeting, it still expects that serious negotiations will take place when the two parties meet.
In a release issued on Thursday, GuySuCo said that it will pay the Annual Production Incentive in late January “as is traditional.”
