Permaul’s seven-wicket haul is highlight of last day

Off-spinner Veera-sammy Permaul spun webs around the Rest Team as the three-day trial ended in a draw yesterday at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.

Permaul, a former West Indies under-19 player, grabbed seven wickets for 116 runs from 39 overs before play was called off at tea on yesterday’s final day.

Pacers Trevor Benn and Brandon Bess picked up one wicket apiece for the Guyana XI side.

Permaul, who operated without his spin twin Devendra Bishoo, bowled well on the flat Eve Leary pitch.

Christopher Barnwell, resuming on his overnight score of 105 only added 11 more runs. He stroked 11 boundaries and three maximums from 139 balls.

The Rest Team started yesterday on 216-1 but lost overnight batsman Shemroy Barrington who added a mere three runs to finish on 32 from 58 balls.

Essequibo under-19 batsman Royston Alkins contributed 31 from 67 balls with four fours and a six while Gajanand Singh chipped in with 23 (2×4).

In the Guyana XI’s score of 306 all out Assad Fudadin scored 106 and Vishal ‘Cheesy’ Singh 68.
