Dominican Republic frees French held for drug trade

The two had written to Carla Bruni-Sarkozy asserting their  innocence and asking her to intervene.
“It’s thanks to her that we are here,” 20-year-old Celine  Faye said of Bruni-Sarkozy on television, standing next to her  friend and fellow inmate 19-year-old Sarah Zaknoun.

The two were pardoned by Dominican President Leonel  Fernandez, having been sentenced to jail in 2008 after six kg of  cocaine were discovered in their luggage. They said the drug had  been placed there without their knowledge.
