A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving stemming from a 2008 incident and his licence has been suspended pending the outcome of the trial.
Pooran Nebar of 95 Groenveldt, West Coast Demerara was charged with causing death by dangerous driving. This resulted from investigations into a fatal accident that occurred on the Zeelugt Public Road, East Bank Essequibo on October 25 last year, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian, the police said in a press release yesterday.
At around 9:20 that night last year, 30-year-old Ricky Ramnarine of Zeelugt was pushing a bicycle across the road when he was struck down by a motor van, the police had said at the time. He was taken to the Georgetown Hospital where he died while receiving attention. The driver of the vehicle, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, was arrested, the police had said.
In the wake of the charge, Nebar’s driver’s licence has been suspended pending the outcome of the trial, the police said.
