Footballer on two-year bond over assault

A 29-year-old father of one appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with unlawfully assaulting the mother of his child.

It is alleged that on May 28 at Georgetown, Shawn Bishop of 9 and 10 Rosemary Lane, South Ruimveldt unlawfully assaulted Latoya Samuels. He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

According to the virtual complainant (VC), she had an argument with the defendant who is the father of her child and the conflict developed into a physical confrontation when Bishop began hitting her. Samuels told the court, however, that she has been living with the defendant for the past 13 years and did not wish to pursue the matter, but asked the magistrate to give Bishop a warning.
When given a chance to respond, the defendant denied ever hitting Samuels.
The matter was called to the bench and a discussion ensued.

The professional footballer who plays for Alpha United was later ordered to pay $4,000 cost and was placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years.
