A 32-year-old man was on Monday admitted to the male surgical ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) nursing a stab wound to his chest after being involved in an accident with a motorcyclist which developed into road rage.
When Stabroek News visited Jahaman Vanviele at his hospital bed yesterday he said that though he is recovering well and feeling only minor pains, he is still in total shock at the events leading up to his stabbing.
According to Vanviele, he was proceeding east along South Road at approximately 12:45 pm when in his rear view mirror he noticed a speeding motorcycle approaching. He said that he was about to turn a corner but added that because of the speed with which the rider was coming, the biker eventually hit his left rear bumper.
According to Vanviele the motorcyclist came off of his bike and started using expletives. Vanviele related that he came out of his car and tried to have a civil conversation with the man to seek ways of resolving the matter amicably. He said however, that the man continued arguing.
By this time, Vanviele said that he decided to go about his business as he was making no progress in dealing with the matter. As he began walking back to his car, Vanviele said that the man started to follow him. Just as he stopped to look back at him however, Vanviele said that the motorcyclist took a penknife out of his pocket and dealt him a stab to the chest.
Vanviele said that his six-year-old daughter became terrified after witnessing the incident and ran out of the car and began kicking and biting her father’s attacker. He said that he was later taken to the hospital by a public-spirited citizen.
The injured Vanviele said that he has so far given statements to the police but added that the perpetrator had not been taken into custody.
