M&CC extends amnesty to month-end

The Mayor and City Council has extended the period of amnesty to December 31, 2009 and is calling on all defaulters to go in to its treasury and settle their accounts, the Council said in a news release.

It stated that during the amnesty period, the Council would waive all interest on accounts provided that the amount demanded is paid in full for 2009.

However, if persons are unable to pay the demand in full they may opt for a payment plan.

If defaulters were to settle their accounts, it would enhance the ability of the municipality to honour its financial obligations to its garbage and other contractors. It would also allow the Council to continue providing such services as drainage, road repairs, parks and open spaces, law enforcement, street lighting and environmental services, the release added.
