Host club and Amelia’s Ward register victories on opening day

Host club Netrockers and Amelia’s Ward United registered victories when the Netrockers Football Club Town Week Under-19 football tournament got underway at the Bayroc Community Centre Tuesday.

In the opening game Amelia’s Ward United defeated Eagles United 1-0 in a Group A match.
The winning goal was scored by Oliver Cromwell in the 39th minute.

Host club Netrockers scored a 3-0 win over Hi Stars with Fitzroy Chin (31st), Clarence “The Shark” Huggins (46th) and Orande Wills (49th) the goal scorers.

According to coach Eon Wills, their margin of victory could have been bigger.
“We could have won this game by a bigger margin, but the guys didn’t work according to the plans we had going into the game. However, I am pleased with the results and will continue to approach every game with great intensity in an effort to maintain this winning streak.”

The tournament was officially declared opened by the president of the Netrockers Football Club, Collis Griffith in the presence of the president and secretary of the Upper Demerara Football Sub Association.
Also present were other club executives and special invitees.

Graced with a musical rendition by the Linmine Secretariat Constabulary Band, the participating teams proudly displayed their Club Banners in the March Past.

Action will continue today from 4:pm with Blue Berry Hill United coming up against Vasco at the same venue in a Group ‘B’ fixture.
