Everest Cricket Club (ECC) and the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) will contest the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Cellink first-division two-day tournament after both teams finished with the upper hand in their semi-final matches yesterday.
ECC gained first innings points over the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the match that ended in a draw at the ECC ground while GNIC defeated Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) outright at the MSC ground.
Over at Everest, DCC resumed on their overnight 105-3 in pursuit of ECC’S first innings score of 246 and crumbled to 199 all out.
Christopher Barnwell not out 47 overnight was eventually dismissed for 68 as Christopher Surat bagged 4 – 44 and Amir Khan, 3 – 51.
Everest, with a lead of 47, piled on 156 second innings runs with Joseph Perry (31) and Khan (29) leading the way.
National pacer Trevon Garraway grabbed four wickets while Barnwell chipped in with three.
Everest were bowled out in the final hour of play for an overall lead of 203 runs but DCC was only able to face one over in their second innings before the scheduled close of play.
At Thomas Lands, MSC’s Stephen Jacobs was in a no-nonsense mood rattling up a steamy 81 which included nine fours and five sixes in a losing cause.
MSC were set a target of 282 to get in their second innings for a spot in the final after they lost on first innings.
MSC, who were 155-7 at stumps on day one in reply to GNIC’s 277, reached 210 all out to trail by 67 runs in the morning session.
Damian VanTull top scored with 75.
Former West Indian off-spinner and current chairman of the West Indies selectors, Clyde Butts took 4 – 74 for GNIC who then added 214 runs batting a second time for an overall lead of 281.
Chasing the outright win which would put them into the final MSC lost national opening batsman Shemroy Barrington, Orin Ford and Vantull cheaply at the top of the order as GNIC immediately took control.
Danny Narayan stuck around with Jacobs making a fighting 53.
He received support from fast bowler Jeremiah Harris (26) before the team was bowled out for 240.
Doing the damage was the father and son combination of Clyde Butts senior and junior who picked up two and three wickets for 33 and 44 runs respectively.
