Opportunities abound to counter threatened tourism downturn –Prashad

In a New Year’s message the minister said 2009 was “a terrific year for investments” in the sectors within his purview.

Several hotels, resorts, lodges, guest houses, new businesses and tour companies expanded tourism with sporting, community and entertainment events. Prashad also said his ministry worked closely with the business community, private sector and minibus association to monitor prices, quality, standards and service to ensure that consumers got value for their money.

However, the minister said businesses must adapt to new technologies and continually improve and invest in service and become more proactive in marketing and promoting their products and services. They must also adopt best practices and green business practices in order to sustain Guyana’s competitiveness and vitality in the long-term. Prashad said too he has thoroughly enjoyed working with stakeholders in the sector and is looking forward to the opportunities 2010 will bring.
