As the investigation of the murder of Edward Winfield continues, three persons, including his girlfriend, have been detained while the home of his mother was searched by police.
Edward Winfield, 25, of 279 Blueberry Hill, Wismar Linden was found dead along the road leading to the interior. His body, which bore several wounds, was discovered by one of his brothers early Thursday morning. He had been chopped and stabbed.
Still in a state of confusion, Winfield’s mother, Marva Husher, said police ransacked her home on Sunday afternoon in her absence. According to the woman, at the time she was out of town and she received a call from her daughter, who informed her of the police action. “It was my three daughters and them grandchildren home at de time. Deh seh de police come and ask if I deh home and then deh seh deh get new information and the come fuh search deh house.
Deh den even bring a warrant deh just rip up meh house. ‘Til now I can’t ketch meh self,” cried the woman. She added that she had not yet found some important documents and a purse which contained her children’s birth certificates as well as clinic cards.
During the search, a section of her fence was torn down and several items were thrown out of the house, resulting in damage, she said. “Deh seh dem looking fuh guns and money and I don’t know where they get dat clue dat meh son wodda gat money and guns hiding in here,” added the woman.
Husher said that she complained to the Officer in Charge of the E&F Division Herman Timmerman about the manner in which the search was done and was advised to give a statement, which she did yesterday.
Husher said mourning the loss of her son was compounded by the actions of the police. “Deh seh tings like how come we ain’t tek down blinds yet and meh son dead and how we ain’t even put up no tent fuh keep wake! Is like we aint sad dat me lose meh son.
Dem things hurt me man, dat boy was my baby, my last child and it hurts,” she said.
According to the woman, an older son was among those held by the police for questioning but he was released yesterday.
Winfield was one of the persons held by the Linden police in relation to the recent $7.6 million robbery at the Wismar Post Office. He was arrested and held for six days because it was believed that his car was used in the robbery.
