Bullet fractured robbery victim’s leg

The bone in Michelle Pile’s right leg was fractured on Friday night when two gunmen attacked, shot and then robbed her of jewellery and other valuables.

Robbery victim Michelle Pile in her hospital bed yesterday.

Pile was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) sometime around 8.30 pm. She has since had surgery and was up to yesterday still a patient at the medical institution.

Pile, 37, of South Sophia told Stabroek News yesterday that she’d gone to visit a friend, who she recently discovered was a long lost relative.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Pile said she was standing at the woman’s gate backing Lamaha Street [Newtown, Kitty] when she was suddenly pushed into the yard.

“I de standing there talking to her…it was sometime after 8 that night but I can’t really tell you the time…and all of a sudden I feel somebody push me in her [the friend’s] yard,” Pile recalled. “I didn’t know I was being robbed until one of them snatched my chains from my neck.”

Pile said she resisted slightly when one of the men pulled at her handbag and it was then she was shot.

The men, she related, were not wearing masks but she didn’t manage to see their faces.

Her attackers were able to relieve her of two gold chains and her handbag which contained her cellular phone, some cash and other items.

The woman said she doesn’t remember all of what happened after she was shot.

“I have three children who are all attending school,” Pile said, “and it will be very hard on my husband to work, take care of the house, see to the children and take care of me here all at the same time.”

Since the incident, Pile said, police have visited her but are yet to take a statement.

“I am not sure they [police] will be able to do much because of the limited information I can give them, “Pile stated. “I am just glad to be alive.”
