Stabroek News learnt from a source last evening that GRA was “tipped off” and proceeded to the LBI foreshore.
They subsequently discovered a boat, approximately 20 feet long, stacked with about 80 Gerry-cans containing the illegal fuel. GRA has since handed the case over to the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA). At 7.30pm yesterday GEA officials, the source said, were still counting and examining the jars.
According to the source, no one was in the area when the boat was discovered and officials could not determine who owns the boat. When questioned, LBI residents denied knowing the vessel and could not tell officials who was responsible for it.
Meanwhile, Stabroek News was unable to contact GEA’s Chief Executive Officer Mahendra Sharma for a comment.
