The memory of Shree Chan is alive

Minister Michael Shree Chan was fondly called by his comrades and friends, ‘Shree.’ He is being remembered for many reasons aften ten years.

Above all he was a good and gentle human being. Shree was a precious son of Enterprise, ECD, and a worthy son of his country.

He was a stalwart in the struggle for independence and the restoration of democracy in Guyana, serving selflessly in the Progressive Youth Organisation, the Peoples Progressive Party and the labour movement.

Shree was a Jaganite who served the party with distinction in various capacities. From his early youth he gave up his accounting job at Enmore sugar estate to join the Progressive Youth Organisation, and there was no turning back.

He picketed, protested and fought tirelessly for the rights and benefits of the working class.

After the restoration of democracy in October1992, Shree was assigned the post of Minister of Trade and Tourism, a position he served with distinction. The famous ‘Main Street Big Lime’ was his brain child. Michael Shree Chan was a patriot who is being remembered for his dedicated service to the party and the people of his country. The memory of our comrade and friend Shree is alive.

Yours faithfully,
